If you go to Google Maps and zoom in as far as you can, you will find yourself in Lawrence, Kansas, because the co-inventor of Google Maps was born here. If you are a basketball fan, or just want to experience what a game in historic Allen Fieldhouse is like, you cannot pass up the opportunity. If you’re lucky, you can score tickets to see the legendary Jayhawks basketball team play in Allen Fieldhouse, the loudest college basketball arena in the country. The University of Kansas is known for it's beautiful campus on the hill that not only includes academic buildings, but also the Museum of Natural History and the Spencer Art Museum. Take Saturday afternoon to walk up and down both sides of the street-stopping for lunch and then dinner, of course. Tensions were high between the new settlement, which was intent on remaining a Free State, and the state of Missouri, which was pro-slavery. The history of Lawrence dates back to 1855, when the newly-founded town was caught in between the North and South during the Civil War. There is no denying the overwhelming wealth of history Lawrence has to offer.
